The highly anticipated Champions League match between Tottenham and AC Milan in the Round of 16 ended in disappointment for the home team, as they failed to mount a comeback despite the return of their manager, Antonio Conte, after a five-week absence due to gallbladder surgery. Milan had the advantage with an early goal by Brahim Diaz in the first leg, and Tottenham's wasteful players were unable to find the back of the net, resulting in a 1-0 aggregate defeat. Adding to their misery, Cristian Romero received a second yellow card late in the game and was dismissed.
This defeat also means that Tottenham's chances of winning a trophy this season are virtually nonexistent. They were previously knocked out of the FA Cup by second-tier Sheffield United and the Carabao Cup in the Third Round by Nottingham Forest. To make matters worse, they are currently trailing 18 points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal.

Tottenham's performance on the night was lackluster, managing only one shot on target throughout the match. Even top scorer Harry Kane's header from Son Heung-min's delivery in added time was brilliantly saved by AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan. In contrast, Milan appeared more threatening on the break, with former Liverpool striker Divock Origi hitting the post with a strike that almost gave them breathing space.
Despite their victory, Milan could have scored more goals and sealed the tie earlier in the second half when Diaz saw his thumping strike saved by Tottenham goalkeeper Fraser Forster. In the end, however, they were worthy winners of the tie and will now progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
