2019-20:
After finishing top of their group which consisted of Valencia, Ajax, and Lille, Chelsea started their knockout stage campaign with a 1-0 loss to Valencia in the first leg of the round of 16. However, they turned things around in the second leg, winning 2-0 at home to progress to the quarterfinals on a 2-1 aggregate scoreline. Unfortunately, they were unable to progress any further as they were knocked out by eventual champions Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals. The first leg of the tie ended in a 3-0 defeat for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, and despite a 4-1 win in the second leg, they were unable to overturn the deficit.
2020-21:
After a slow start to their group stage campaign which saw them draw their opening two games against Sevilla and Krasnodar, Chelsea went on to win their next four games to finish top of their group. In the round of 16, they faced La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid and produced a dominant performance to win the tie 3-0 on aggregate. In the quarterfinals, they faced Porto and again produced a solid display to win the tie 2-1 on aggregate. In the semifinals, they faced Real Madrid and produced a professional performance to win the tie 3-1 on aggregate, with goals from Timo Werner and Mason Mount securing their place in the final. In the final, they faced fellow Premier League side Manchester City and produced a tactical masterclass to win the tie 1-0, with Kai Havertz scoring the decisive goal in the first half. This was Chelsea's second Champions League title in their history.
2021-22:
Chelsea started their group stage campaign with a 1-0 win over Zenit St. Petersburg, followed by draws against Juventus and Malmo. They then suffered a shock defeat to FC Zenit in the fourth matchday of the group stage. In the final two matches, Chelsea managed to secure two wins against Malmo and Juventus, which allowed them to finish top of their group. In the round of 16, they faced Paris Saint-Germain but were knocked out of the competition on away goals, with the tie finishing 3-3 on aggregate.
2022-23:
Chelsea have qualified for the quarterfinals of the Champions League for the third time in four years. They finished second in their group behind Juventus, with three wins, two draws, and one defeat. In the round of 16, they faced Spanish side Villarreal and produced two dominant performances to win the tie 4-1 on aggregate. In the quarterfinals, they are set to face Bayern Munich, a repeat of the tie from the previous season. This promises to be a highly anticipated clash between two of Europe's top sides.
