Heinz Baumann, a well-known actor, has passed away at the age of 95, as announced by the artist agency Hahlweg on behalf of his family. Baumann was most famous for his portrayal of characters in crime-related roles. He played the role of Chief Inspector Ewald Strobel, a somewhat foolish character who could only solve his cases with the help of his resourceful secretary Adelheid, alongside Evelyn Hamann in "Adelheid und ihre Mörder". Additionally, in the ZDF series "Soko 5113", he played the role of detective chief inspector Jürgen Sudmann.
Baumann was born in 1928 in a small village near Oldenburg. He initially dreamt of becoming a test pilot but after the Second World War, he had to let go of his aspirations. At the age of 20, he had his first engagement as an actor and moved to Quedlinburg where he played theater in the newly founded GDR before moving to West Germany after three years. In the early stages of his career, he mainly acted in theater. In 1960, he made his television debut in the feature film "Das Spukschloss im Spessart".
Baumann had a daughter named Judith Richter, who followed in his footsteps and became an actress like her father. She is known for her work in numerous TV productions. Baumann had Judith with the comedian Beatrice Richter in 1978.
Baumann's talent for comedy was evident in his work alongside Evelyn Hamann in the series "Adelheid und ihre Mörder" from 1992 onwards. For his role as Chief Inspector Strobel, he was awarded the Bavarian Television Prize in 2002. Unfortunately, the series came to an abrupt end with the death of Evelyn Hamann in 2007. Following this, Baumann's appearances on television became increasingly infrequent. His last on-screen appearance was in 2013 in the TV movie "Just Married".
